For External Auditors

The External Auditor Training course is designed for health and safety professionals who wish to conduct external safety audits for forestry employers seeking their SAFE Companies certification using the BASE audit standard. 

External Auditors will have a combination of education, occupational health and safety background, auditing experience, and forest sector experience. See below for a complete list of prerequisites.

Acceptance into external auditor training is on a competitive basis, with applicants’ qualifications reviewed before class selections are made.

Length:

This course involves five days of classroom training, followed by a student audit requiring both field and reporting time to complete.  The time commitment for the student audit will vary based on factors such as the size and type of operation involved.

Cost:

Total cost for instruction and materials is $1,050 (includes 5% GST).

External Auditor Training Prerequisites

External Auditors for SAFE companies will have a combination of education, occupational health and safety background, auditing experience, and forest sector experience. External Auditors must at least meet the draft prerequisites listed below.

 

Minimum Prerequisites

Preferred Prerequisites

Education

Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly & professionally in a written report format. 

OHS certificate/diploma

e.g. CRSP, CHS, BCIT,

Occupational Health and Safety Activities

5 years in a leading role managing health and safety management systems

3 years in a full time OHS leadership/management role

Auditing

3 years internal auditing experience

3 years external auditing in a safety environment

Forest Sector Experience

2 years operational forestry experience

More experience preferred in a variety of forestry operations
