Safety Alert
A skidder was backing up on a logging block with an approximate slope of 30% to retrieve a drag of trees when it stalled and couldn’t be restarted.
The stalled skidder began to slowly skid downhill at approximately one km/hr. The operator attempted to engage the emergency brake, but it failed. The regular brakes also couldn’t hold the machine in place. The operator
radioed others on site and was instructed to exit the machine immediately as it continued to move down the slope.
