A forklift operator conducted his pre-trip inspection at the start of shift and identified that the latch that holds the forklift door in the open position was not functioning. The operator carried on and climbed into the forklift. As the operator was about to sit in the seat the door swung shut and caught his hand which was holding on to the door frame.
