FREE Interior Safety Conference – Thursday, May 9th in Kamloops BC

Join us on Thursday, May 9th at the Coast Kamloops Hotel & Conference Centre in Kamloops, BC for the BCFSC’s Interior Safety Conference (ISC).

This annual event that brings together professionals from the BC forest sector to discuss safety-related issues and explore ways to improve safety practices in the industry and is held in partnership with the Interior Logging Association (ILA) Conference which is celebrating it’s 66th Annual AGM and Convention from May 9 – 11 in Kamloops, BC.

The ISC is FREE for anyone who works in any phase of the forest industry from silviculture to harvesting and log hauling to wood products manufacturing. It features forestry-related safety topics with speakers, industry experts, and relevant safety information.

This year’s conference centres around SAFETY AT WORK: INSIDE AND OUT . We welcome two keynote speakers Justin Brien and Steve Donahue as well as special guest speaker Leanne Pozzobon.

Justin Brien, a Mental Health Advocate, will be featuring a presentation called “Find Your Voice, Find Yourself” that focuses on his own personal battles with mental health and substance use and the importance of speaking up. Steve Donahue, an expert in Change Leadership, will take us on his journey through the Sahara Desert and share the importance of adapting to change through “An Epic Journey on Shifting Sands – How to Navigate Change in a World of Disruption”.

SPECIAL GUEST SPEAKER: Leanne Pozzobon

Ty Pozzobon tragically took his own life in January 2017. Ty was a professional bull rider and suffered multiple concussions in the rodeo arena. After his death, an autopsy revealed Ty suffered from Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy (CTE), the first confirmed case identified in a bull rider.

Leanne will share her personal story on the importance of educating people on “The Invisible Injury”, how to recognize the signs and symptoms and understand the underlying mental health challenges that shadow these injuries.
