Forestry Blasting Program

The BCFSC online Forestry Blasting Program is designed for individuals involved in blasting operations within forestry environments. We offer the following free, optional, courses, each with a record of completion:

Blasting Hazards and Safety – 1 hour

Legal Requirements for Forestry Blasting – 2 hours

Blasting Techniques – 5.5 hours    (This course includes a practice exam)

Total training duration for all three courses is 8.5 hours.

In B.C., anyone working as a blaster must be certified by WorkSafeBC, and all blasting work must fall within the scope of their certificate. To become certified, blasters must provide documentation of knowledge, qualifications and experience including a minimum of 8 hours of training relating to safe handling of explosives.  They must also pass a written exam. For more information refer to: Blaster certification – WorkSafeBC

Our training may assist new forestry blasters in preparing for certification and is also an excellent option towards meeting the 6 hours of Continuing Professional Development (CPD) requirement for certified blasters. The program may also be of interest to contract managers or those in supervisory roles who want to better understand blasting operations and safety requirements.
