Russel Robertson joins the BC Forest Safety Council as Director, Programs and Training

Nanaimo, January 13, 2015

The Chair and CEO of the BC Forest Safety Council (BCFSC), Reynold Hert, is pleased to announce that Russel Robertson will be joining the BCFSC as Director, Programs and Training effective Friday, January 16, 2015.

Russel will support the development of the Council's province-wide programs and training to meet the needs of the forest sector as part of the actions to eliminate injuries. “I am looking forward to joining the team at the BC Forest Safety Council and having the opportunity to support the forest industry in achieving excellent operational performance, safely,” said Russel.

Russel was most recently CEO of the Transportation Career Development Association and previously worked as the Senior Director, Program Standards for the Industry Training Authority. His forestry experience includes Manager of Human Resources for Canfor’s Englewood operations with a focus on reducing workplace injuries, during which time he served as a Director on the SAFER Council with the mandate to improve safety and create a healthy work environment.

Russel has also served as the Manager of Training and Development with Forest Industrial Relations (FIR), and prior to that was the Manager for Human Resources and Organizational Development with PulpCo (formerly Fletcher Challenge Canada’s pulp operations) based out of Vancouver.

The British Columbia Forest Safety Council was created in September 2004 as a not-for-profit society dedicated to promoting safety in the forest harvesting industry. The organization is directed by industry and provides training, information, guidance, safety advisor advocacy, safety reviews and audits to industry. The focus is on preventing fatalities and injuries by supporting industry participants implement best practice performance.
