Location:
22 km on the 8100 Road-South Canim Road (60 km’s east of 100 Mile House)
Date of Incident / Close Call:
2013-01-10
Company Name:
Katchmar Construction (1997) Ltd.
Details of Incident / Close Call:

An empty logging truck was travelling east up the 8100 Road when another truck radioed the driver to advise that there was car running in a driveway up ahead. Expecting to meet that car shortly, the truck driver was proceeding slowly and with caution.

At approximately 22 km’s, a passenger vehicle travelling west cut the inside of a blind corner on the log truck’s side of the road. The truck impacted the car while braking and pushed the car across the road into a snow bank (see photos in attached pdf).

The passenger vehicle was severely damaged but thankfully the occupants sustained only minor injuries. The Log truck meantime sustained minor damage. Both RCMP & CVSE attended the scene.

Learnings and Suggestions:

• Be sure to communicate with other Truck Drivers and make sure you call km’s

• Reduce speed as needed and drive defensively

• One can never be too careful; always expect the unexpected
