A mechanic was loading a press into his shop truck when another worker rolled a tire mounted on a wheel towards the shop where the mechanic was working.

The tire got away from the worker and rolled towards the mechanic, who could not get out of the way fast enough. As a result, the tire fell over onto the mechanic’s left leg. His injuries were minor in nature.

Learnings and Suggestions: 

• While moving objects into an area adjacent to other workers, ensure they are aware there is new activity within their workspace

• Assess the need to seek help with large tires

• Ensure there is enough room to complete your task, plan your travel and eliminate hazards
