Pick-up impaled after rear-ending log truck

A loaded logging truck had slowed to make a left hand turn.

A Toyota pickup truck following the log truck was rear ended by a van. The impact sent the pickup truck into the end of a load of logs (see photo in attached pdf).

The occupants of the pickup had enough time to move themselves out of the way of the logs.

The cause of the incident is under investigation.

Learnings and Suggestions: 

 • Know the road conditions, current temperatures and drive accordingly

• Check your mirrors often every 7-8 seconds

• Be a courteous driver and leave room between you and the vehicle in front
