I am registered as an independent company - what do I need to do become SAFE Certified?

The Council has developed SAFE Companies program standards for large companies (20+ workers) and small companies (3 - 19 workers).  These programs have been successfully up and running since November 2006.

The independent company, being defined as a 1-2 person operation, currently has a SAFE Company registration option, but currently no formalized certification requirements.  However, we are working to develop a certification program that speaks to the unique qualities and business challenges of an independent company.

Development of SAFE Companies for the independent company is currently being finalized within our TAC (Technical Advisory Committee). We expect a certification program to be available as soon as possible (pilot activities summer 2007) and release shortly thereafter.

If you have already registered in the program, that is great!  Companies registered as an independent company will remain registered (active) in the program until a SAFE Companies independent certification program is released by the Council. Your registration information provides us a way of directly following up with you when the program is available. At that time, you will be notified and will then have 6 months to complete their initial certification audit.

We, at the BC Forest Safety Council, are excited about this employer category in the SAFE Companies program. No other COR program specifically addresses the needs of the independent company and we look forward to offering you an effective, workable safety certification program.

We appreciate your patience as we finalize the development for SAFE Companies for the independent company.
