Details of Incident / Close Call:

While doing block layout, more than a dozen random shots were heard being fired in the working area. At 3:00 PM, when four field workers were meeting at the truck, shots were being fired again. This time the shots were fired in the direction of the crew and the whizzing of the projectiles could be heard flying past their heads.

Workers began shouting to make the shooter aware of their location but the shots continued. A bear banger was then used to alert the shooter but to no avail. Workers promptly got into the truck and left the area.

Grand Forks RCMP was contacted the following day. Police investigated, sent out an aerial flight of the area and found nothing suspicious.

Learnings and Suggestions:

• Wear Hi-Vis PPE

• Have signage out to inform gun users that field workers are in the area

• Leave the area
