Icy road condition causes pickup to slide, roll

During daylight hours, an employee was driving to town to get parts when his pickup truck hit a patch of ice. He attempted to steer the pickup back onto the road but overcorrected. The vehicle spun around the other way, before rolling off the road. Fortunately, the driver avoided injury.

 

Learnings and Suggestions: 
  • Be prepared for poor road conditions and expect the unexpected
  • Reduce speed if conditions warrant
  • Ensure tires are in good condition with plenty of tread
  • Carry chains and use them if necessary
