A hand faller was working on a block in normal conditions with good weather. He was not falling at the time of the incident but was walking through the block.
While stepping down off a log, the faller slipped and the chainsaw dogs punctured the side of his leg, having missed the falling pads.
The faller returned to his truck, drove with his falling partners back to the marshalling yard and let his supervisor know. The faller was sent to get checked out by his doctor.
Findings: Faller let his mind drift after work and let his “radar” down while still at work. In his mind he was only walking, not falling trees, so the risk was gone.
Keep your mind at the workplace. Even when the job is complete you are still at work. Risks are still present and they need to be recognized and neutralized.
