Get ready for exciting changes coming to SAFE Companies!

Date:
June 5, 2012

Throughout the end of 2011 and early 2012, industry was calling for changes to the SAFE Companies Program. We listened. We believe those looking for changes will be pleased. Here are the highlights:

The small employer and independent owner/operator audits have been revamped.

Alternate maintenance audit pilot introduced.

Eligible BASE and SEBASE companies can volunteer to participate in a pilot across 2012 and 2013.

The pilot program will be made available to up to 100 employers who have completed at least 4 years of a regular audit cycle, offering them an optional Action Plan method to maintain their Certificate of Recognition (COR). Examples of situations where employers may benefit from Action Plans include:

Rather than conducting an annual maintenance audit, some employers may find it more valuable to focus their resources on enacting action plan items from their last audit, and working on company health and safety projects. Eligible employers for the pilot must make application for approval to use an Action Plan in lieu of conducting a maintenance audit.

Stay tuned for more information on these upcoming changes in July.
