While yarding, the turn hung up – skinned back – choker broke the log. There was lots of slack in main and when the log broke the rigging flew back and up the hill, striking a worker in the face and knocking him down the hill.

Learnings and Suggestions: 

Expect the unexpected!

Worker did not expect log to break/rigging to come that far and was standing too close.

Held a tailgate meeting to discuss the incident and reinforce safe distance and keeping out of the bight.
