Close Call: Resource road users near Quesnel should take note of a dangerous curve

Location:
Quesnel Forest District - 8500 Road, 12.5 km mark (northwest of Quesnel)
Date of Incident / Close Call:
2011-10-26
Company Name:
Val-J Holdings
Details of Incident / Close Call:

When proceeding to the worksite on the 8500 Road, the corner at 8512.5 is very sharp and narrow and is considered a 'blind' corner.

The approach to the corner is downhill and has the ability to catch the driver unawares as to the sharpness of the curve in question.

Due to the degree of the turn and the lack of signage warning of the sharp curve, this location poses a serious potential hazard.

Learnings and Suggestions:

• Signage should be installed alerting to the sharpness of the approaching corner

• A checkerboard sign should be erected at the curve to emphasize the hazard
