Location:
North of Prince George, BC
Date of Incident / Close Call:
2011-08-23
Company Name:
Stones Bay Holdings Ltd.
Details of Incident / Close Call:

A wheel loader operator parked his pick-up in a pullout of an outside corner at the entrance to a logging block. This area was also an active gravel pit.An off-highway log truck arrived in the area and as it rounded the corner, the ‘sweeps’ from the load made contact with the parked pick-up. The passenger side fender and mirror were damaged but no injuries were reported. The wheel loader operator’s inexperience caused him to choose a poor location to park his pick-up. This particular logging block was very congested at the time, with active logging underway, hauling activity (off-highway) and gravel pit activity. The end result was too many vehicles in a small area.

Learnings and Suggestions:

Ensure workers who park their vehicles know their surroundings, identify hazards and understand what other activities may be underway in the local area.
