Snagged cinch line on log load results in cedar striking driver

While undoing the third cinch on a bundle of logs, a log truck driver had to pull on a suspected snagged line. The driver was struck a glancing blow when a small cedar left the load from between the stakes. The driver was fortunate not to have sustained serious injury.

Learnings and Suggestions: 

Always be aware of all possible hazards and stay diligent in your own safety. Specifically:

  • Stay in the safe area behind the guarding of the destrapping station
  • Use a pike pole if necessary to retrive cinch lines/flip compensator
  • Do not put yourself between the load and barrier for any reason
