Crew was travelling to work site in a one ton 4x4 crewcab. As they turned vehicle around in the landing, a front tie-rod end broke resulting in a loss of steering. No injuries or vehicle damage resulted. Further inspection revealed the tie-rod showed significant wear. This vehicle had recently been serviced in town however there was no documented suspension/steering component inspection.


Learnings and Suggestions: 


Ensure that the service includes a complete suspension/steering component inspection as part of the regular vehicle service program.
