A log truck driver was in the trailer re-load process. He was setting the hook (from the hoist to the molly) by grabbing the shackle with his left hand. When he raised the hoist, he pinched his left pinky finger. He received first aid from the Polar Saw Mill first aid attendant. 
 
Causes:
 
The root cause of this incident was the driver not using the proper tool or procedure for the job. He placed his hands in an area that is not to be handled and is a known pinch point.  

 

Learnings and Suggestions: 

 

Keep all body parts away from pinch points and use the tools provided to avoid injury. Also, ensure that all equipment is in proper working order prior to starting a task.
