JOB TITLE: Falling Safety Advisor
REPORTS TO: Director, Safety Services
PURPOSE: To manage and provide oversight for all the Council’s falling programs, including development and implementation of programs, policies, training and quality assurance.
Specific Accountabilities Include:
- Manages and provides oversight for the Council’s faller training and certification program.
- Manages and provides oversight for the falling supervisor training and certification program.
- Maintains high standards for the new faller training program and other falling related programs including, achieving enrolment and budgeted targets as established in the work plan.
- Works with the Manager of Training and Program Development to provide oversight and direction on all training and education related to falling including the chainsaw training and danger tree blasting program.
- Works with the Manager of Training and Program Development to develop and implement new programs, training, and standards that meet the needs of industry.
Manages and provides quality assurance for the Council’s trainers and qualified supervisor trainers QS/T’s within the falling program areas.
- Provides leadership with the Falling Technical Advisory Committee (FTAC) and other committees or working groups as required.
- Provides technical and strategic EHS support to stakeholders across the industry.
- Provides oversight on the certification and certification maintenance for fallers and falling supervisors.
- Represents the Council on key technical & regulatory issues and initiatives with industry, government agencies and other stakeholders relating to falling.
- Monitors regulatory changes as they relate to falling.
- Assists with the development of formal assessments and options on safety issues identified by industry.
- Liaises and works with the falling community and associations on injury prevention initiatives and standards.
- Facilitates and leads meetings with industry, associations and government agencies.
- Provides oversight and guidance with Council staff on falling related matters including content within the SAFE Companies audits.
- Participates with other Council staff on field verification audits as required.
- Interacts regularly with Council staff and stakeholders in response to immediate issues and concerns.
QUALIFICATION PREFERENCES:
- Minimum of 10 – 15 years of falling related background.
- Minimum of 5 years related health and safety experience.
- Preferred experience of 10 – 15 years managing or supervising fallers.
- Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) Certification or equivalent, or ave a willingness to work towards achieving.
- Knowledge or experience working with the BC Falling Training Standard.
- Knowledge with the SAFE Companies Certification Program and audits.
- Good working knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Regulations (OHSR) relating to forestry and falling activities.
- Proven track record of implementing and completing projects.
- A demonstrated understanding of best practices for developing and implementing safety related training standards and programs related to falling.
- Competent computer skills; Word, Excel, and Power Point.
- Strong facilitation and organizational skills.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience working with diverse groups or stakeholders to develop collaborative solutions that address industry, regulatory, and economic concerns.
