Details of Incident / Close Call:

A collision occurred between a loaded logging truck and an empty logging truck at approx. 32.8km on the Copper FSR. The two trucks met unknowing that the other was coming.

The empty truck came to a complete stop, but the loaded truck jackknifed the load while attempting to stop. The load of logs made contact with the front of the empty truck, damaging the hood and the radiator.

Learnings and Suggestions:
  • Monitoring road systems to ensure “radio call procedures” are being implemented
  • Add more “must call” signs for the empty vehicles to call
  • System for road users to report sub-standard conditions or road contraventions
  • Make sign at bottom of roads consistent with the hauling procedure
