At around 9am, a planter was working along the tree line at the back of his piece when he was surprised by a black bear about three meters away. The bear bolted up a tree where it remained for about 30 minutes before leaving the area.
 

Learnings and Suggestions: 

Maintain awareness of surroundings especially around tree line. Ensure workers do not have IPod headphones covering both ears. Planters can shout along tree line occasionally. Work in pairs if bear known to be in vicinity.
