Worker was travelling on a snowmobile on the block road. While riding over a partially buried tree that had blown down across the road a branch came over the hood and windshield of the snowmobile and struck worker in right eye. The worker was not wearing safety glasses or goggles as no high speed travel or obstacles were expected during a day of debris pile burning.

Learnings and Suggestions: 

Edit the personal protective equipment section of our Snowmobile Operation Training Bulletin / Hazard Assessment to make the use of eye protection required not just recommended.

Use of goggles or safety glasses is mandatory when operating a snowmobile, ATV or motor bike.
