A mechanic manually attempted to lift a skidder chain by himself. The chain slipped out of his hand and caught on his middle finger. The weight of the chain caused a tremendous pain shooting past the wrist. It was later determined to be a sprain of the middle finger.

Learnings and Suggestions: 

Mechanics and equipment operators are reminded to exercise caution when lifting heavy and unorthodox items. In this situation it would have been advisable to either request help from other people, or perform the lift with a deck crane.
