Two empty b-train logging trucks were traveling West on Highway 20. The first logging truck put his signal light on and pulled to the side of the road to let the second logging truck pass him. The second logging truck driver was checking on a beeping noise coming from the computer in his truck. When he looked back to the road, he noticed that the first logging truck had pulled to the side of the road. The driver had to swerve hard to the left in order to miss rear ending the logging truck that had pulled to the side of the road. There was damage to the passenger side and the bull board of the second truck.

t    Logging truck driver was not paying attention to the road in front of him.

t    The first logging truck did not verbally communicate to the second truck that he was pulling to the side of the road to let him pass.

t    When the truck pulled to the side of the road, it was not fully off of the highway and hence creating a hazard.


Learnings and Suggestions: 

t    Always pay attention to the task/job that you are performing.

t    Verbally communicate your location and your intentions to other drivers.

t  Expect the unexpected.
