Date of Incident / Close Call:
2008-09-02
Company Name:
Tolko Industries Ltd.
Details of Incident / Close Call:

Silviculture worker had inspected cutblock for free-growing status; on his way out, he encountered two hunters that were target practicing. They were shooting parallel to the road in the direction that the worker was exiting the block. Upon making visual contact, the hunters ceased firing and apologized, stating that they should have ensured that nobody was working below them before they commenced target practice.

Learnings and Suggestions:

- Always wear high visibility hard hat and apparel, especially right before and during hunting season.

- When working in the field, Tolko’s Okanagan Woodlands employees are to work with increased levels of caution and place “CAUTION: FORESTRY WORKERS IN AREA” signs on their pick-ups right before as well as during hunting season.
