Description:

SAFE Companies Refresher Training for Small Employers

  • Independent Small Employers (ISEBASE): 2 to 5 employees (and contractors), including company owner
  • Small Employers (SEBASE): 6 to 19 employees (and contractors), including company owner

What is it?

SAFE Companies is a Certificate of Recognition (COR) program. Refresher training for small employers is a WorkSafeBC (WSBC) requirement for all COR participants.

Auditors will be required to complete their training by December 31, 2012 to receive a COR rebate for 2012. This requirement cannot be assigned to a contractor or consultant.

If you choose not to complete the required refresher training, you will continue to be SAFE Certified and registered in the SAFE Companies program, however you will not be eligible for the rebate.

When your company first registered for SAFE Companies, either you or an employee of your company attended the Small Employer Occupational Health and Safety (SEOHS) 2-day training; this made the person who took this course your company's 'auditor'. To help auditors improve safety management within your company, the WorkSafeBC Certificate of Recognition program requires auditors to complete 7 hours of refresher training every 3 years. 2012 will be the first year the Council has offered the training.

What will I learn?

The content of the course will focus on helping the auditor streamline and improve the company's safety program and audit submission. The course examines real life case studies of how other companies are managing safety in their business, discussing loss prevention and identifies improvements to the company's safety management systems to reduce the paperwork burden.

What is the duration of this course?

Both classroom and computer-based training will be offered. In-class training sessions are 7 hours. Computer-based training will be competency based and may or may not take 7 hours to complete.

How much does it cost?

In-Class Training: $160.00+HST Please note space is limited to a maximum 20 participants per classroom training session

Computer-Based Training: $80.00 + HST

When and where are the workshops being offered? How do I register?

If you are interested in attending the SAFE Companies Refresher Training for Small Employers, please complete and submit an enrollment form and course fee to the council.
