External Auditor Training Course

What is it?

The External Auditor Training course is designed for health and safety professionals who wish to conduct external safety audits for large forestry employers seeking their SAFE Companies certification. The program consists of a five-day training course and a student audit which consists of a full health and safety audit using the BASE Audit. A variety of instructional techniques are used including lectures, class discussions, case studies, and group exercises. Ethics and conflict of interest issues will be discussed.

    • Presenting audit findings

External Auditor Training Prerequisites

External Auditors for SAFE companies will have a combination of education, occupational health and safety background, auditing experience, and forest sector experience. External Auditors must at least meet the draft prerequisites listed below.

Education

Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly & professionally in a written report format. 

OHS certificate/diploma

e.g. CRSP, CHS, BCIT,

Occupational Health and Safety Activities

5 years in a leading role managing health and safety management systems

3 years in a full time OHS leadership/management role

Auditing

3 years internal auditing experience

3 years external auditing in a safety environment

Forest Sector Experience

2 years operational forestry experience

More experience preferred in a variety of forestry operations

 
Participation – What does it involve?

We are looking for 10-12 students to participate in this external auditor training course.

Students will be required to participate in all aspects of the external auditor training:

  • Classroom Session – Classroom sessions will include lectures, class discussions, group exercises, and training in the audit tool and auditor code of ethics over a period of 5 days (4 days of instruction, final exam on 5 th day).
  • Student Audit – Students successful in the classroom portion of the course will be required to submit a student audit.

When and where are the courses?

There is an External Auditor Training Course scheduled for September 15-19, 2008 in Prince George.
