How is the internal auditor selected?
Companies may propose candidates for internal auditor training. Internal Auditor applicants require a combination of forest sector experience, health and safety experience, and a willingness to develop and apply audit skills.
The candidate must either be an employee of the company or be declared as a dependent contractor of that company. Internal Auditors are not allowed to conduct maintenance audits for more than one employer. The Council also recommends that larger companies send a representative that may not have primary responsibility for the safety program at that company or division. There is value in having a different person conduct the internal audit than the person who created or manages the safety management system.
