The BC Faller Training Standard and Certification Program seeks the on-going advice and counsel of knowledgeable and active fallers to ensure that the program is effective and relevant. To ensure that the Committee is proactive and effective, it will:
be independently chaired,
have a set schedules of meetings that must occur, and
have the ability to raise matters directly with the faller program and Safety Council.
Organization
The Faller Certification Advisory Committee will have 10 members, determined as follows:
A Chair appointed by the Forest Safety Council from outside the Faller Certification Advisory Committee after consultation within the sector.
7 members nominated by and designated to act on behalf of the following organizations:
Coast Forest Products & Lumber Association ( Coast Forest FLA)
Council of Forest Industries (COFI)
Logging Associations (one member)
Interior Logging Association (ILA)
North West Loggers Association (NWLA)
Central Interior Logging Association (CILA)
Steelworkers – IWA Council ( USWA-IWA)
Truck Loggers’ Association (TLA)
Western Fallers’ Association (WFA)
WorkSafeBC (WCB)
At the discretion of the Chair, 2 additional members nominated by the Chair and acceptable to the Committee.
Roles
The Faller Certification Advisory Committee will address issues of importance to the program, including the following:
Standard setting in consultation with stakeholders.
Supporting maintenance of Standards, with the ability to recommend changes when necessary, including the modification of curriculum and exams.
Providing advice and support to the BC Forest Safety Council with regard to faller certification.
Acting as a “Committee of Last Resort” for review and resolution of program-related disputes.
The provision of advice on the maintenance of effective Quality Control over all aspects of the Certification Program.
Communication with Industry.
Duties and Responsibilities
The Faller Certification Advisory Committee will:
Meet on a regular basis as agreed by the Chair, or at the call of the Chair and in no case less than twice a year.
Bring forward the interests, needs and concerns of the various stakeholders they represent while avoiding non-related political agendas.
Cooperate with other members in bringing initiatives to satisfactory closure through consensus building.
Actively participate in initiatives that are supported by the group as required.
Assist in the implementation process of the certification/ training needs for fallers in the industry as required.
Review related information when required and provide comment in a timely manner.
Assist in the development and maintenance of core values of the group.
