The Forest Safety Council is committed to working with the sector to eliminate serious injuries and fatalities. To support that we have developed this section on Safety Information. The intent is to provide a place for the sharing (among the sector) of safety related information. As the forest sector safety infrastructure matures, timely sharing of safety information will become more and more critical. Information sharing will help to prevent re-occurrence of similar kinds of injuries and fatalities. For example, if one company has an incident with a grapple yarder travel brake and share that with other companies the chance of it happening again are reduced. Similarly if one company develops a process for safe hauling procedures for a particular type of logging truck (Cut to Length (CTL) for example)- the whole sector can benefit from the new process.
This section is organized into:
Safety Alerts - Sometimes referred to as Hazard Alerts, these are a notification of a particularly hazardous condition or situation which may be related to a recent serious injury or equipment damage, and may require immediate preventative action on the part of the sector.
Safety Bulletins - These tend to be general reminders of a safety precaution, procedure or event, and needs to be communicated with all employees and contractors.
Incident Investigations and Notices - These will generally be categorized into fatalities, serious injuries or close calls.
Industry Recognized Practices (IRP's) - Sometimes referred to as Industry Developed Standard Operating Procedures, IRP's are developed by industry to provide known and proven practices of conducting work and enabling workers to conduct their work in a safe, efficient and productive manner.
If you have a Safety Alert, Safety Bulletin or IRP that you would like to have posted here, please contact us at armstrong@bcforestsafe.org
To assist with the creation of new Safety Alerts, the Council provides a template that can be downloaded in Microsoft Word format.
